In December 2019, The Brazilian Health Regulatory Agency (Anvisa) unveiled new guidelines surrounding the prescribing and marketing of medical cannabis. Hemp-derived CBD is regulated under the Brazilian government and is permitted for medicinal use only with authorization from the National Sanitary Surveillance Agency (Anvisa). 

CBD oil and similar products can now be found in various health food and natural medicine stores across the country. Today, the country is one of the largest importers of CBD products in the world

Brazil prohibited cannabis and its derivatives regardless of the THC content up until 2015. In December 2019, The Brazilian Health Regulatory Agency (Anvisa) unveiled new guidelines surrounding the prescribing and marketing of medical cannabis. The government expanded the legislation surrounding the sale of CBD products by allowing for THC-free oral products containing less than 200 milligrams of CBD per milliliter to be sold. 

Brazil’s CBD laws ban the use of any active synthetic ingredients in any CBD products. The country has no distinction between industrial hemp and marijuana, which requires all products to be imported.
