South Africa

overview

OVERVIEW In 2017, South Africa legalised the production and export of medical cannabis. In September 2018, the Constitutional Court ruled that it is not a criminal offence for an adult citizen to use, possess or grow cannabis in private for personal consumption. The Constitutional Court’s decriminalization of cannabis further actuated the country’s entry into the market.

The cannabis and associated products market is estimated to be worth R27 billion by 2023. This has quickly led to a massive amount of cannabis license application and investment.

what we do

CiiTECH brands are available directly through the company and partners to the South African market in compliance to all the local laws and regulations.

Since attending CannaTech in November of 2019, the CiiTECH team has been working hard to develop CBD oils, edibles and topicals for niche markets in South Africa.

LAWS

In May 2019, the South African government made a historical act that saw cannabidiol products, or CBD, become available for wholesale distribution across the country. Although this was initially a 12-month exemption, in May 2020, Zwele Mkhize, the Health Minister for South Africa, signed new laws for the scheduling status of CBD products.
